Garage Door Cable & Roller Repair · Palm Desert & Coachella Valley
High-tension lift cables, cable drums and bottom brackets repaired fast, plus sealed-bearing nylon rollers for a much quieter door.
Overview
Lift cables work alongside your springs. They run from the cable drums on the torsion shaft down to the bottom brackets on each side of the door and carry its full weight as it opens and closes. When a cable frays, snaps or jumps off the drum, the door loses support on that side. It may hang crooked, jam in the track, or drop unevenly.
Rollers keep the door riding smoothly inside the track. Worn rollers with dry or broken bearings cause grinding and rattling and put extra strain on the opener. Over time they can also pull the door out of the track.
We replace cables, drums, brackets and rollers same day across the Coachella Valley, and every repair ends with a full balance and safety check.
Hanging cable or crooked door?
Stop using the door and unplug the opener. A loose or broken cable means one side is no longer supported, and running the opener can bend panels or pull the door off the track. Keep cars and people clear.

Cracked or worn drums replaced and cables re-seated in the drum grooves to stop cables from jumping or overlapping.
Rusted or bent bottom brackets replaced, carefully and with spring tension released first, since they hold the cable under load.
Sealed 11- or 13-ball bearing nylon rollers that run far quieter than steel and outlast basic plastic wheel rollers.
Cracked hinges replaced and rollers, hinges and bearings lubricated together for a door you can barely hear.
Most residential doors use 1/8-inch galvanized aircraft cable, but the cable has to be matched to the door weight and spring system. Cables usually fail at the bottom bracket, where moisture from washing cars or monsoon rain collects and causes rust. They also fail when a spring breaks and the load shifts suddenly, or when the door comes off the track and the cable goes slack and jumps the drum.
A frayed cable is a warning, not a cosmetic problem. Once a few strands break, the rest carry more load and can snap without warning. Because the bottom bracket and cable are under full spring tension, the springs have to be unwound before either part is replaced. That’s why cable repair belongs with a trained technician.
Many builder-grade doors ship with plain steel rollers or plastic wheel rollers with no bearings. Steel rollers are durable but loud, since metal rides on the metal track. Plastic wheel rollers are quieter at first but wear flat, crack, and break down in desert heat and UV.
Nylon rollers with sealed 11- or 13-ball bearings combine a quiet, track-friendly wheel with a bearing that keeps dust out and grease in. In the Coachella Valley, where fine dust gets into every exposed bearing, sealed bearings make a real difference. Upgrading rollers is one of the most affordable ways to make an older door ultra-quiet, especially when the garage sits under a bedroom or next to a casita.

How it works
We clamp the door, disconnect the opener and check whether the door is level, binding or partly off track.
Spring tension is safely unwound so cables, drums and bottom brackets can be serviced without stored energy.
New cables are installed on both sides, drums and brackets replaced as needed, and worn rollers swapped for nylon ball-bearing rollers.
Springs are rewound, cables tensioned evenly, and the door balanced, lubricated and safety tested.
FAQ
The most common causes are rust at the bottom bracket, fraying from age, a broken spring that suddenly shifts the load, or the door going off track so the cable jumps the drum. We find the root cause so the new cable doesn’t fail the same way.
We don’t recommend it. The cable and bottom bracket are held under full spring tension, so the springs must be unwound first. Removing the bracket under tension is a common cause of serious injury.
For most homes, yes. Nylon rollers with sealed ball bearings are much quieter than steel, gentler on the track, and hold up better in dust and heat than plastic wheel rollers. It’s a modest upgrade that makes a noticeable difference.
Both are sealed-bearing rollers. The extra balls in a 13-ball bearing spread the load further, which helps with heavier doors and high daily use. We recommend the right roller for your door’s weight and how often you use it.
Grinding and rattling usually come from worn steel or plastic rollers, dry hinges, loose hardware or a chain-drive opener. A roller upgrade plus lubrication and hardware tightening often makes a door dramatically quieter.
